You should keep your head elevated as much as possible after surgery. The elevation of your head reduces swelling. You may need any pain medication and antihistamine. Take the painkillers as needed. The day following your surgery walking is permissible (take a 30-minute daily walk starting from day 3 after surgery). For washing inside your nose use the washing solution and syringe provided to you.

Things you should do:

  • Sleeping with 2 pillows at night

  • Drink clear liquids and very soft foods

  • Wash inside your nose at least 5 times a day

  • Apply ointment to the sutured areas 3 times a day

  • Apply a cold compress on the nose and eyes

  • Use a soft brush and brush your teeth gently

If your splint gets wet, dry it with a hairdryer. You are also allowed to use contact lenses after 2-3 days. For cold compress, you can use a homemade ice bag (or gel-based ice packs) and instant cold packs available at pharmacies.

Fibre regulates bowel movements. Diet is especially important during the first week after rhinoplasty.

You should not do heavy exercise for a couple of weeks after rhinoplasty. Being aware of the conditions you will have after nose job will help you a lot. For example, swelling will be your mortal enemy for the next few weeks after surgery. Sneezing might affect you after the surgery. So, sneeze with an open mouth and no pressure would be put on your nose. If you have a tampon in your nose, ask your doctor about the time of its removal.

Things you should not do:

  • Don’t lift heavy objects
  • Do not put anything in your nose
  • Don’t blow your nose or sneeze for a few weeks after rhinoplasty
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 3 weeks after surgery
  • Don’t drink alcohol
  • Avoid driving for one or two weeks after surgery
  • Stop smoking 2-3 weeks before and after surgery
  • Avoid ball and contact sports for 6 months
  • Don’t wear clothes that need to be pulled over your head
  • Don’t make the splint wet (a wet splint causes skin rash and infection)
  • Don’t wear medical glasses or sunglasses (eyeglasses)

We recommended that you stop smoking 2-3 weeks before and after surgery because nicotine slows healing and increases the risk of complications. Drinking alcohol dilates(widens) nasal blood vessels (increasing the risk of bleeding). After on month, you can do light exercises. Using eyeglasses puts pressure on the nose and prevents the nasal bones from repairing. In fact, the nose pads can pressure the nose and hinder the healing of the nasal bones. If your eyes are weak and you have to use medical glasses tape them to your forehead. (As a result, they won’t pressure your nasal bones).
